excerpt:
Jazlyn grabbed the puck and took a shot at the net, but missed. She skated after it and tried to wrap it around the back of the net, but missed again. The whistle blew and it was time for a line change.
Red haired, pony tailed Jazlyn was ready for her big game. Today, she would play centre, and all she wanted was to score a goal. She skated her best and didn’t give up, but hard as she played, she couldn’t do it. Mom and Dad were proud of her efforts, and her coach thought she played a great game and wanted to put her in centre position again, but Jazlyn wasn’t so sure. And though she was ready to give up, her family and her coach just wouldn’t let her.
Author Renná Bruce has crafted a very important message into this simple story to which young children can truly relate. “Keep trying, and never give up” is the message this story relates with heart and conviction. Robin Oakes, illustrator, lights the pages with colour and somewhat comical characters that are sure grab the interest of the children who read this short book. Jazlyn J Gets A Goal will be a wonderful addition to any home or school library.
Highly Recommended.
