Excerpt

The Moon is a silver pond.
A pail of milk.
A sleeping snail.

The Moon is a Silver Pond is a simple and elegant board book written and designed for the youngest of children. Each turn of the page reveals a new setting where a young child notices that everyday objects, such as a pail of milk or a shining hubcap, resemble a full moon. One can imagine young children carrying this comparison on as they examine their own surroundings, and, indeed, the author asks at the end, “What is the moon to you?”

The illustrations are detailed, comprised of rich colours, especially blue and green hues. The landscapes capture the subdued and still vision of a Canadian winter. The Moon is a Silver Pond is highly recommended for all board book collections.
